We are grateful to share that the Chock Property is now part of St. James’ Parish.
We give thanks for the prayers, care, generosity, steady commitment, and work that have brought us to this point. Most of all, we give thanks and glory to God. This was an unexpected opportunity that has opened before us -- one that holds promise for expanding our capacity for mission, outreach, and service in the years to come.
In the days ahead, the property will be thoughtfully assessed and cared for as we continue to understand its current condition and immediate practical needs. We are addressing initial matters such as safety, security, useability, and responsible stewardship of the property as we begin this new chapter.
For the next 16 months, the property will be used to support the construction of the Gathering Place, which will replace the Savanack Pavilion. Using the property in this way will allow the ministries and activities of St. James’ to continue with far less disruption during construction.
We have stepped toward this opportunity in faith, not knowing all that God may have in store beyond the immediate use during construction. As with all things at St. James’ Parish, future possibilities will unfold in time, guided by prayer, learning, conversation, and a shared sense of responsibility to one another and to the wider communities of Waimea and Moku ʻO Keawe.
Once we have additional information to guide us, we will enter into a formal time of intentional and prayerful discernment of the property’s use beyond the property’s initial blessing for the construction of the Gathering Place.
For now, we pause simply to mark this moment with gratitude and humility. Our parish ‘ohana extends sincere thanks to everyone who has helped make this milestone possible and looks ahead with hope as this new chapter begins.
